As record was being taken to know how many children born before Christmas day, nurses at the Wenniba hospital in Ghana recorded a baby that was born with open stomach. Born living, a baby boy, according to a source at the hospital needed operation for survival for this reason; the case was referred to the St. Gregory Catholic Clinic at the Buduburam Refugee Camp since the mother is a refugee.

The St. Gregory Catholic clinic at Buduburam according to report also referred the family to Korle-Bu teaching hospital in Accra. A general practitioner at the clinic told this paper that when family members took the child to Korle-Bu they accordingly refused to submit to surgical operation recommended by doctors and returned to the St. Gregory Catholic Clinic that doesn’t have the capacity.

This paper gathered that the baby boy died at home after few days. A physician who spoke to the Equality Trumpet said even though he isn't a specialist, the condition of the child is due to malfunction. He explained that such a condition could be attributed to attempted abortion, bad drugs taken or due to lack of the right diet for the pregnant woman.

When the home of the family was contacted, a family member told this paper that the mother is grieving and is not in the position to talk to the press and would not appreciate her name and any member of the family in the paper.

He further said the family is wondering what could be the reason the baby was born in such condition. “Our sister won’t have attempted abortion because she doesn’t have a child, adding “she seriously needs a child as we speak”, he narrated.
